It is almost impossible on Saturdays to keep Toby in the house, not with the way Mom is constantly in and out doing misc. yardwork.

A small bit of optimism...

Many cats that are declawed climb trees just fine, so at least there is that for a line of escape. You're right that defense is somewhat limited, but honestly, a swipe with a "bare" paw is a good enough deterrent for many critters, and he's still got teeth, so we'll just hope the kitty gods keep Toby safe and take it one day at a time.

Get him a spiky collar so he could look all tough and bad-@$$, then once other critters get a look at him they'll think, "No way do I want a piece of THAT guy!" Plus, if some car dares to run him over, he can take it down with him! :)
