The succinct version: they killed Elizabeth and ignored the rest of their supporting cast.

Now, a character death alone isn't enough to make me divorce a show, but the behind-the-scenes stuff in this case left a very bitter taste in the mouths of a large slice of the fandom. See, Amanda Tapping, who plays Sam Carter on SG-1, had signed a two-year contract, since it was generally expected that SG-1 would get an eleventh season. Well, they didn't, and the writers decided to take the option on her remaining episodes and bump her over to Atlantis. So they axed Torri, presuming that, since Carter was so iconic, that naturally everybody would think it was really cool and "better" that she was leading Atlantis. The fans were distressed. But instead of treating their concerns respectfully, or treating Torri respectfully, the executive producer, Joseph Mallozzi (a pinhead in a clown costume, if you ask me), lashed out against the fans with a lot of sarcasm and condescension ( ... )

I think you summed up Stargate pretty nicely...although I would watch it again. Especially the first 6 seasons of SG-1. The thing with me and Atlantis is that even though Elizabeth's character really did get royally screwed, and the shipper in me really wishes there had been some resolution to the John and Lizzie thing, I did think the last season was better than the previous one. And leaving them floating in the SF Bay with the Wraith still out there sucking the life out of the Pegasus Galaxy just wasn't a satisfactory ending for me. I want the Wraith to get their butts kicked like the Go'auld did, dangit!! (I do have to admit that I also did enjoy the stuff between McKay and whatever the name of the doctor that Kaylee played is.)

And, well, SGU just isn't fun like the old Stargates were, and I'm still kind of bitter that SG-A got shafted for that. (Honestly, I'm not really missing it in its midseason hiatus. I'd much rather they bring Sanctuary back sooner, since I have been enjoying Amanda Tapping in that.)

But, yeah. Happy Chuck
