SabreCat:

While I'm a huge fan of the current edition of Dungeons & Dragons, one thing I'm unfond of is Wizards' stance toward intellectual property this time around. It's always nice whenever we see someone put our products to good use. And it's really nice to see our tikbalang race combined with the Witch-doctor class. I think the two really go well together.

With regards to the name, babaylan is actually used more oftenly as a title than as a name. It refers to a barangay's (or town) spiritual leader in the pre-hispanic era of the Philippines, one whose body can be ritually possessed by deities to impart knowledge or miracles. You're in luck, though - most babaylans were female, and in the rare cases where they are male, they have been known to cross-dress (according to folk tales). So is used as a name, it will have very feminine leanings.

On a tangent, the babaylan is one of the things we plan to tackle for our next e-book. :-)

Hah, nice! That sounds highly appropriate for a Witch Doctor character even if it is uncommon as a name. And rather funny that I picked it out when it's something already on your radar--I look forward to hearing what that's all about! (I've got Nosfecatu subscribed everywhere I could find it, so I should hear about whatever comes along next for Buan... ;)
