Is there no way to change who shows up on your friends page without actually removing friends?

There is, in fact: you can edit the "Default View" Friends group. I tend to pull people off there temporarily if they post a bunch of obnoxious uncut images.

But to use that as a solution to the issue in this post feels disingenuous, since it's like "I'm going to keep you on my list so it looks like I'm reading you, but in fact I don't pay the faintest bit of attention."
