Color enhancing

Here is my first tutorial using Gimp 2.0.

I have found that this works for me in making icons. I use Channel mixer in gimp to bring out certain colors.

TO

First, get your base image and sharpen it, and whatnot, however you want the base image to look.

Duplicate base.

On this layer, go to Filters->Color->Channel Mixer

The output channel I put is

Blue=
Red 10.4
Green -16.3
Blue 102.2

Red=
Red 123.0
Green -25.2
Blue 22.2

Set the layer to Color at 100% opacity

Duplicate the base again and bring it up to the top.
Set it to soft light at about 25% opacity. This brings out the skin a little more.

You can change setting to whatever works for your image.

I also have found a way to make a border around the image without making it over 100x100 pixels.

Flatten the image.

Go to ScriptFu->Selection->fade outline

Set the setting to

Border 1
Fade from 100%
Fade to 0%

Nothing checked.

Then, add new layer, fill it with whatever color you want the border to be, and set it behind your image.
