U.S. Blacks, if a Nation, Would Rank High on AIDS
If black America were a country, it would rank 16th in the world in the number of people living with the AIDS virus...

You know, it amazes me that in a country like ours, the epidemic can have such a stranglehold on an entire community, although I suppose it shouldn't. We are after all the same ( Read more... )

In a community steeped deeply in denial of the facts combined with a need to perpetuate a pretense that sleeping around and being unprotected is ok and cool, people are going to gamble with their lives. That's not even taking into account some of the other behaviors that are causing this to be a problem.

Honestly, I can not count the number of ways that the black community needs to wake up and fix the problems. It makes part of me die a little inside.

Well, it's all communities. We all live in the same society and get the same messages about sexual behavior but not all of us get the same education and prevention which is part of the problem.

That is true. I guess faced with that fact I would like to see people realize how urgent it is to change things when no one seems to be in a hurry to help them.

It just saddens me. But so much in the world needs to be fixed and I know it can't happen over night. In the meantime how many will die?
