I'll be completely honest, one of the main reasons I haven't been working on anything fannish lately is because I'm currently disgusted with the A:tLA fandom--or maybe I should say Zutara fandom, since the fandom at large is innocent and I hate dealing in generalities when it's avoidable ( Read more... )

I managed to miss the epic shipping wars, and thus can't relate to you on the Zutara aspect, but fandoms can be insanely dumb sometimes. They complain about everything and anything. They split into tiny factions at the drop of a hat. Etc, etc.

Ignorance and hatred tend to come out more on the internet because it's anonymous, I think. People think they can get away with putting other people down because 'it's just words on a screen'. But it's not, and some people just don't get that.

I tend to agree. People somehow think the virtual world "doesn't count" when it comes to treating people with decency and respect. I'm by no means foolish or naive enough to think we will ALL be friends.... but seriously, sometimes I wonder why people can't even exercise common courtesy. |:

I do my best to treat people nicely, but since a few of the fandoms I've involved in have young teenagers (Pokemon, for example), I've seen people insult a new poster for asking an "obvious" question that they "should" know the answer to. Actually, I've seen similar behaviour in a more mature fandom, so I guess people like being an ass online?

I wish people will be more courteous to each other, but I doubt that will ever happen. T_T

Needless to say, the people "in question" are way into adulthood...

What sucks is that this is the zutara community we're talking about. A:tla fandom in general hasn't done much of anything :/

I think we've all kind of learned that our own little corners are probably better than lurking around in public forums like we used to. It really sucks though, considering.

I agree, I'm finding myself preferring the company of 6 and 7 year olds much more than many online communities.

People are ridiculous. Well, they're a lot of other things too but let's stick with "ridiculous" because it sounds nicer than most of the things I'd like to call them.
