So! Is Arthur a projection there for Eames' and Ariadne's voyeuristic pleasure, as I thought until it wasn't "revealed" at the end, or are they taking turns as Eames' line suggests, and if the latter, was Arthur truly taken (literally) by surprise or was he pretending/enjoying the thrashing, etc.? Questions, I have them. Perhaps they are rhetorical.

You are the second person who thought Arthur was a projection! Honestly, I didn't think about this story that hard, and I think he could be a projection if you wanted without changing much, but I meant for him to be a willing victim for whom Ariadne designed this tentacle monster.

But really, whatever tentacle-related explanation you think of is acceptable.
