This is not me playing devils advocate…just putting it out there.
So. I’m always pretty easy when it comes to SPN. I just am. I don’t get to upset, I forgive plot holes, I ignore things that irritate me and I love Show for Show’s sake. But I sometimes wonder why some folks get upset because they think that Dean is getting the raw end of the

DEAN IS A SAMGIRL
So much yes to this.
You know me, Debs. I'm a Dean!girl all the way, but I can't picture Show without both boyz being integral to the story. I've never felt like one took more center stage. Sure, there are stories about Dean that I felt weren't covered in enough detail, especially his time in hell, but I don't think they didn't do it because they wanted to focus more on Sam.
But it would be so much more enjoyable if I could be equally passionate about both of them! I try... but to no avail. Sorry Sammy!
I don't know if I'd say "more enjoyable" but I do have a lot more invested in Dean than Sam. I do love Sam, but I think I really love him only because Dean loves him. Sorry Sammy. *ruffles his ever growing hair*

You know me - I'm a diehard Dean girl, and I don't see any of it as being "all about Sam." What bugged me was that Show took away most of Dean's opportunities to be a big stinkin' hero, and turned him into a doormat. It might have made sense from their storytelling POV, but it's sure been depressing to watch! And to be fair, watching Sam turn into an arrogant asshat was pretty depressing too. I want our boys to show their heroic side - as equals. We can haz that plz?

Still, strong capable boys? Kicking ass and taking names. Perfect.

In regards to what you say: 100% agree. Also, I think both characters are complex and have been fully explored, and I think Dean's character has always been the more prominent character in the series, even when the storyline is focusing on Sam.
Haha, Dean is a Samgirl! So true. What I miss about the show most is the lighter-hearted, more fun episodes. Dean is a prankster and can be very funny, and the weight of all that's happened has really beaten him down, and that's what I miss, but otherwise, I think the show is pretty balanced between them, with Dean always being the cooler or more heroic of the two.

I miss the light hearted eps too. I don't mind some angst but both Jared and Jensen are quite the comedians so when they are able to show that side it is great. Plus, I love to laugh!

I think that people have the right to lament too! We are so invested in these boys! All of those strong feelings just drive that point home.
I'm not sure that Dean didn't have a storyline in 6- there was the whole Ben and Lisa thing. That was huge for Dean. Just like his ultimate choice to let them go. Dean had a whole life outside of Sam and hunting, again, huge. I think that sometimes we feel like he doesn't have a storyline because there is never any satisfaction for Dean. His dream of a family? Crushed.
He did get his brother back though and that was great.
But I can see a bit why folks feel that way. Thanks for the input!
