I got a copy of "The Dark is Rising" yesterday, and managed to finish reading it before 10 PM. I had finished the first book, "Over Sea, Under Stone" the night before, and I thought I'll read the next before I watch the movie

So many books, so little time! I've been wanting to read Philip Pullman's books for the looongest time. I can't though, because I still have stacks of wuxia at home :D
And well, yeah, everybody compares everything with a bit of magic to HP. It's like "Harry Potter meets blank" every single time.
That's the problem with kids nowadays. They don't see anything else besides Harry Potter. I read this review of the movie that again compared it with HP, then the writer quipped, "Susan Cooper must be shaking in her shoes waiting for a possible lawsuit from J.K. Rowling for writing a book and publishing it twenty years ago." Hahaha. If ever, all other British fantasy writers can sue J.K. Hey, I loved HP but I'm not going to go gaga and say it was the best fantasy book I've read.
Hmm, I think I'll re-read "His Dark Materials" again. :D
I used to read Enid Blyton's 'Brownie Tales' and another book which title I already forgot. My mother have me those books and she read those when she was still a kid. :)
Most of my Enid Blyton books were gifts too. I had a few that were older than I am (published in 1960s, I think). Too bad the binding and the paper quality wasn't good. It was brittle by the time I got it and it didn't survive the multiple re-reading that I do. There's one book of hers that I'm trying to find, "The Treasure Hunters". E-book or whatever... I can't find it. :(
It was her books that first got me into mysteries and using words like lorry, lift, brownie, bobby (truck, elevator, scout? police)... and then realizing that it wasn't normally used by people here ahahaha.
