Skarsgaard is mostly amusing because he's freakishly tall and a ginormous dork. Kind of like Tahmoh. Maybe that comparison will help?
I can't bring myself to watch True Blood at all beyond YouTube clips, it's just...I can't handle it. /o\ But I totally understand what you mean about contrarian fandom impulses. "You all like X? I WILL LIKE Y JUST TO SPITE YOU ALL."
Hee! I like the actor and I like the character, it's just... Oh, fandom, never change. :P
I haven't read the books (yet), but I decided to check out the series in a fit of boredom a couple of weeks ago. At first, I wasn't sure about it, but I just couldn't stop watching and now. Now I have another new fandom. *headdesk*
"You all like X? I WILL LIKE Y JUST TO SPITE YOU ALL."
OMG, it's so funny, sad and true. And lovely. So...go for it!
I don't cheer on any particular team over the other here with TB...in fact, I'm more on Team Sookie-should-frak-anyone-and-everyone-she-pleases. Ya may know if you've read the books that she has a few other suitors in the books.
Anyhow, I think the Eric love is coming from the book fans -- it's hard to resist really, that character is, after you read all the books, just so much fun.
That said -- I love Stephen Moyer! He's the Jamie Bamber of TB fandom, always says the best stuff, often better than what Alan Ball says. WAY better interview than Paquin or Skarsgard, seriously.
Yay, glad you are in the fandom sabaceanbabe...and inlovewithnight, we're waiting here for ya...
I don't get it either. They've never portrayed him as anything but a giant douche. IDEK. What's funny is I watched first, got my roommate hooked, and now my affection for the show is waning while his is growing stronger. What to do, eh? I still like and watch, but it's not must see for me anymore.
I don't want to push you towards Angel Bill, but... ERIC NORTHMAN FTW \o/
And I totally understand how this fandom can sneak up on you; I watched the pre-air pilot oh so long ago, was HORRIFIED by the bad (was expecting HBO good, not HBO goes pulp), but some members of my f-list kept me up to date on all things Skarsgard, and eventually I just HAD to know the context of the clips I was watching... and I gave in. My cousin also made me read all the books, and WOW do I ever appreciate the series after suffering through that mess!
I have no interest in the current leads, just all the supporting characters: Eric, Pam (LOVE HER SO MUCH), Terry, Lafayette. I need an entire episode of just the supporting characters and the Swedish language. *nods*
Nah. It's mostly just the rabid fangirl shippers. 'Cause I like Eric. A lot. I also like Bill and Sookie.
But I LOVE Lafayette. And I think I might love Jason, which is really weird, 'cause the boy's dumb as a rock on the surface. Not to mention a complete horndog. :P And that whole PTSD comfort scene between Terry and Lafayette when Pam came to visit? SO MUCH LOVE.
I haven't touched the fandom yet, I am sticking with just my f-list; I find that my enjoyment of LJ increases ten fold if I do that.
I like Sookie when she is away from Bill; I find Moyer to be incredibly charming off the show, but I have huge issues with his character Bill and his relationship with Sookie. I go back and forth on Jason, as I do with Tara and Sam: one episode I like them and the next I want to hit them.
The PTSD scene instantly became one of my favourites! LOVE IT! Alan Ball is going to have to deviate a lot more from the books in the coming seasons (this season is a combination of two books and some serious modification) and I'm hoping that means a lot more from both Terry and Lafayette. Oh, and Jessica! :)
