This was a great character study. I really felt for Jo feeling trapped and pushing to get out both from her mother's negative AND her father's positive expectations to become her own person. And although Jocelyn wasn't a sympathetic character, she was a human one, and Joanna's need to maintain that connection but on her own terms was very real too.

Very, very nice story about Joanna and the pains of growing up. The near-comparison of Winona and Jocelyn lessened the Jocelyn's bitchiness; parents aren't perfect by a long-shot, but in the end, they do really want what's best for their children. Your Joanna is a very determined young woman, and she definitely benefitted from the mentors and parents who raised her.

Nicely done!

Thanks so much! :D I think my Jocelyn was more influenced by Clay, rather than it all coming straight from herself, but she still bore a lot of the blame for letting things get that way. And I just love my Jo. She's a tough cookie! :)

This is a very very wonderful story!
I love how rebellious and ingenious young Jo is, and how she is never afraid to fight for what she wants despite her mother's constant attacks on her self-esteem as a child. I love that she does not, in the end, follow exactly in her father's footsteps, becoming a computer expert instead. And I will admit to a few tears at the end (in the best possible way). In short, I loved it. :)
