Sho blew his breath over his hands, trying to keep them from freezing. Because of course today of all days, he overslept and of course he had forgotten to grab his gloves in the hurry of getting to the meeting point in time.
As he watched couples meeting up then walking off from the station, he felt his anxiety and insecurity bubble up inside his chest as minutes passed by. It was already 20 minutes past the time Aiba chose for them to meet up for their ‘date’.
‘Date my ass…’ Sho thought bitterly. ‘Face it, Sakurai, he stood you up. Probably never intended to come at all… This whole situation smell like one of that Ninomiya’s pranks… What else would it be?...’ Sho thought, tucking his chin deeper in his scarf to avoid the sharp winter breeze. He felt so stupid for believing that this time would be different…
Before he could make an even bigger fool of himself than just loitering around the station exit for half an hour - for example with braking down crying - Sho turned around, determined to march home and lock himself in for the rest of holidays, hoping he’ll be able to forget about this humiliation by the time he has to return to work in the new year.
But Sho barely took two steps before - of course! - he’d collided with somebody. He only managed to avoid falling rather disgracefully on his ass thanks to the other party grabbing his arm and pulling him close to themselves.
“Thank God you’re still here! I was afraid you left already… I missed my train so I wanted to call you to let you know but then I realized I don’t have your number… So I tried to hurry and you’re still here… I’m so glad, Sho-chan!”
‘Sho-chan…’
Sho recognized just then that he stumbled right into the exact person he was waiting for. His mind was still confused from the near-trip over and more likely from Aiba’s too close proximity, so he could barely understand the words that rushed out those oh, so tempting lips.
“Ehm… It’s okay, don’t worry about it, Aiba-kun…” he mumbled and pulled away from the other mam, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. He was sad and relieved at the same time when he felt the warm touch of Aiba’s hand slipping from his arm.
“So what do you have in mind?” Aiba asked curiously, beaming at Sho brightly.
But Sho just stared back at Aiba with a blank expression; mostly thanks to that dazzling smile.
“What?” he asked back confused when the silence started to stretch awkwardly between them.
“For our date!” Aiba said matter-of-factly but his smile slowly slipped away the longer Sho just stared back at him mutely. “You… agreed to take me on a date… You promised yesterday, Sho-chan…”
Sho didn’t like the hurt glints in Aiba’s eyes at all. He felt extremely guilty too, knowing he caused that gorgeous smile to disappear. He adjusted his glasses nervously, raking his brain hurriedly to come up with something. He was so sure that it was a set up that - even if he did come - he barely spent any thought to the possibility that Aiba would really want a date with him.
“No! I didn’t forget, of course… I’m here, didn’t I? I just…” Sho trailed off, not knowing how to finish without sound like an ass or a moron. He wanted Aiba to like him, even if just a little, even if only as a friend! Yet always proved himself to be such an awkward idiot! “Anyway… how about a coffee? I know a good place. They also have the most delicious cakes…” Sho said, trying to suppress his raising panic when he realized he had no idea what Aiba liked at all.
But his fears turned out to be unnecessary because Aiba’s face immediately lit up. He took Sho’s hand boldly.
“I love sweets! Lead the way, Sho-chan!”
The date went on more smoothly than Sho had expected. He managed to make a fool of himself only a handful of times and Aiba’s reaction was only a teasing ‘Sho-chan’s so~ cute!’ which was surprisingly tolerable for Sho even though it made him blush harder.
They ended up spending the whole day together. After the café they just wandered around the city aimlessly and when it got darker, they went to watch some Christmas illumination event.
It was Aiba’s idea actually but after a while Sho noticed that his companion was staring at him instead of the twinkling lights around them.
“What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?” Sho asked, his insecurities acting up as he touched his cold-reddened cheeks.
“No, just…” Aiba pressed a little closer to Sho. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I can bare it any longer…” he admitted whispering.
“What?” Sho asked again confused. Suddenly he felt both uncomfortable and excited by Aiba’s closeness. He was afraid Aiba might hear how loud his heart was beating suddenly.
“Can I kiss you right now?” Aiba asked. His words whispered but his voice was full of such need that made Sho’s breath stop for a moment. Or was that because Aiba was hovering so close, their lips barely apart yet still waiting for Sho’s permission.
“You’re teasing me again…” Sho mumbled, blush spreading from his cheeks to the tip of his ears. He wanted nothing more than kissing Aiba but… Why would Aiba want that, right?...
“Not this time” Aiba said shaking his head a little. “I’ve liked you for a while now. So unless you say ‘no’, I’m going to kiss you… Right now…”
True to his words, Aiba’s lips finally descended to Sho’s.
In an instant, Sho felt his world turning upside down. Aiba’s lips were soft and kinda sugary from all the sweets they devoured all day and Sho was sure kissing Aiba will be his new favorite thing.
A moan of protest slipped from Sho was Aiba broke the kiss and it made the man chuckle.
“Sho-chan’s so cute…” he whispered and for once Sho didn’t find the teasing so unbearable. “Aren’t I lucky to get the cutest boyfriend for Christmas?”
“Huh?” Sho blinked his eyes open, looking at Aiba confused. “You said ‘boyfriend’?” he asked, his voice pitching higher at the last word.
Aiba chuckled again.
“You can’t expect me to let you go now of all times… Also, you didn’t say ‘no’ which automatically means I’m keeping you” Aiba declared before leaning in to kiss Sho again before he could voice any protests.
Not that Sho wanted to…
