Okay, this is REALLY creepy.

You know how people have deja vu and all that? I just realized that the musical cue that I've had stuck in my head for over the last year is part of a song played in Inception, which is why I was never able to place it prior.

Which is impossible.

I definitely think it's from something else you've heard previously. There are so many songs with identical pieces, considering the super small range that musician's have to work with using notes that still sounds good. And since you said it was a part of the song, this only enforces this idea more. But of course nothing is 100%. But that is my guess; it is probably a shared tune.

I'd say it's some sort of music theory-related synchronicity, but it's more fun to think of it as a creepy clairvoyance. :D
