Comment links & guestbook

Aug 22, 2006 12:52

I was wondering if we "free user accounts" were able to modify our comment links? I'd like to have mini icons instead of words; I've searched through the memories but found nothing for free users. I'd also like to know if I can create a guestbook with my account level, if so how can it be achieved? Any help will be really appreciated it. Thanks in

images for comment links:
no.

guestbook:
the way it works in smooth sailing is:
  • you make a post (can be backdated)
  • take note of the itemid number (http://users.livejournal.com/_lisette/[itemid].html)
  • enter that into the customization interface
  • then it will add a guestbook link to your menubar

Aww :( I'm stuck with ugly text links then.

Thanks for the help, it worked perfectly :)

May I ask you another question here or should I make another post? it's somewhat related to "icons". I was wondering if free users can change the user icon and security icons?

you can, but it's not guaranteed to work in all browsers.

if you're doing it as a free user, you'll have to target the image file by URL. ie-based browsers can't do that, yet. and people will still be using ie6 for forever and a day, which doesn't support this.

mozilla-based browsers (firefox, etc) do support it.

i have a (somewhat) recent post in s2layers talking about how to do it using layers (which a free user can't) but the code could be extracted from it and translated into something you can use.

if you give me the URLs to the images that you wish to use, i could help you with that.

however, this concept is rather touchy and doesn't always work right. i have no clue why browsers are picky about it.

Oh thank you, that would be wonderful! Do you need my stylesheet as well?

To change the comment links to icons you'd need to do an advanced override - a feature only available to paid users.

As for a guestbook, anyone can do that. Check out this previous question and the answers in the comments to get some tips on what the guestbook is and how to set one up:

Could we please get a tutorial for this for paid users? The question has been asked a few times in the community but no answers yet.

I've been working on one for a little while but never finished. I just finished and posted it on the community:
