Yes I've tried deleting that but it just moves the subject line to the far left of the page (outside the post) and puts it in a small font. It also moves the 'recent entries' link to the far left of the screen in journal mode. I've also tried copying and pasting the code from the other link you suggested and it's not changing anything. Am I doing something wrong?
Okay, so the thing is, that code has to be pasted into a layer as opposed to just using the custom css box in the wizard, and as you have a paid account you can follow the instructions here to create a layer where you can then paste that perl: http://community.livejournal.com/s2smoothsailing/810.html

to hide the title showing up on the background area when looking at entries.
So you can either remove that bit of code or use the following to add the subject line to the entry:
