background image question

about me: new to S2 & CSS, but learning quickly. willing and able to research and look things up, but i'm getting pretty overwhelmed with jargon. paid account.  i've already figured out 95% of what i want to do (the tutorial is FABULOUS)

(sidequestion:  what is an override?  i keep hearing about it, but don't really know what it means....)

You can not set the width of a background image, sorry. The best you can hope for is to have a background color similar to the background image and set the image in the middle, or have a repeating image.

An "override" is really just CSS code... people use the term "override" on livejournal because you are essentially overriding a style that is already in place.
