it's an alligator sticking out of the middle of a phython. i was quite confused by the picture as well...=)

Its a 6 foot alligator being swallowed by a 13 foot python, and then the python exploded cause it couldn't take something so large. There is a morale to this story I guess. :D

quite the contrary.
snakes, pythons and the like can actually eat animals many times their size.

in this event, it didn't expect the alligator to cause such a ruckus in it's stomach. (snakes, pythons, and the like eat their animals live.) if things went well, it's usually the stomach and its acids that kill it.
