Now this is what I'm talking about!

I was TRYING to read Dave Kalstein's book Prodigy which is supposedly a murder mystery, but I was over five hours in and no one had found out about the murder yet.

I just started Herbie Brennan's Faerie Wars-- twenty minutes in and the main character learns that his mother is having an affair with his father's (female) secretary. A much more ( Read more... )

I'm not entirely sure if you'll like it, but I suggest The Fey series, by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. It's a series that I enjoyed a great deal, plot-rich, detailed, effin' amazing.

In case you haven't read it, I really loved Valiant by Holly Black. I wasn't sure about her other books, but I really loved this one.

I tried both Valiant and Tithe and they were both so LOL EMOKID that I couldn't make it past the first twenty five pages of either. I can see why people like them but... meh. Not my thing.

I read Tithe all the way through and didn't think too much of it. The beginning of Valiant didn't grip me much either, but I liked it a lot once I got into the main storyline.

Oh gods. I should be shutting my computer off, not messing around with LiveJournal. Damn packing. And damn ResLife, saddling me with a roommate I've never met sixteen hours before move-in!

I'm going to go growl now. You have oodles of fun with your reading!

Tithe was severely LOL EMOKID. I wanted to punch all of the characters. Valiant was better but I couldn't take the books seriously when she ran away after finding her mother sleeping with her boyfriend. Holly's an okay writer technically and I like reimagined modern fairy tales, but she's trying so hard to be edgy that it grates on my nerves.

Don't give your roommate too hard a time. I'm sure you'll get along. :D
