"goodbye...my love, goodbye"

In this workshop for photojournalism, we were to walk around Pittsburgh and photograph people with a wide-angle lens (I forgot mine at home, so I just took shots at 28) without looking through the viewfinder. We could take pictures from our waists, above our heads, pretty much any place other than our faces. "Hail Mary" shots, if you will ( Read more... )

By "28" do you mean the focal length?

That's a nice set of photos. I like the weird angle in #5, though the person's a bit shadowed by the buildings.

Yeah, that's what I meant :D

And thanks! I didn't even notice the guy there until I looked at the bigger version of it, he's so overshadowed...

Thanks! The PPG buildings in Pittsburgh really are beautiful. I think they're made entirely of glass (and steel)? I'm not sure about that, though. Fortunately, I found out from my instructor after that you're not allowed to take pictures of the buildings on their property because they'll think you're some kind of terrorist or something.

I like the first because it seems like the building keeps going, but then there's a path that goes in between the two. I like the angle on the second one best.

It is true that companys, and city officials, do not allow people to take pictures of their buildings, but it mostly holds true of someone taking pictures inside the the building. If someone gives you grief, always have a student ID handy to explain that your on a AIP workshop project.

Scavenger Photoshots can be fun, but a total pain when you know nothing about Pittsburgh and its odd Art pieces and Building history.

Thanks! And yeah, I'm totally going to continue to take pictures of the buildings, haha. They're pretty amazing, so :P

I think, since it's photojournalism, it'll have to be people scavenger hunts which will be really hard since I never seem to see any of the interesting people. Yeah, people have gotten drag queens and whatnot, but I think it has to do with how I'm never in the same place for more than a minute, haha.

Well, you could check out the internets for occasions and weird happenings in Pittsburgh, especially since St. Pattys Day Parade is soon, not to mention that Daylight Savings has been moved and rearranged this year. So some people will be out of synce, me for one, for the next few days.

BTW, I was really bad today and bought Resident Evil 4 for the PS2. I won't start playing it until this weekend, but at least we can both complain about Ashley and how many times we can make Leon die.

I'm thinking of going out to the 'burgh for St. Patty's Day photo opportunities, but I know getting in and out will be a mess so I might not...
