FIC: Georgia on my Mind (Dead Like Me) George/Daisy

Jul 02, 2006 11:48

Wrote this on the drive down South, so it's a bit incoherent. Sorry. ;)

Title: Georgia on my Mind
Source: Dead Like Me, George/Daisy
Rating: PG
Summary: If your dance card is clear tonight, let's stay in. Get good food, drink wine, listen to old records. Maybe even smoke a cigar or two.

Oh, that was GORGEOUS. I love the dancing, the tenderness, the music... everything about it was just pitch-perfect. You do Daisy better than anyone (just as good as the show, if not better). And bonus: I associate "Georgia on My Mind" with Quantum Leap. A romantic dance between lost loves! So... forget the Sugarbakers, that song is romantic! *G*

Fantastic job!

Thank you! I'm soooo glad you liked it. I love, love, love Daisy so much. I don't know why this pairing works for me. This obscure little pairing on this obscure little show. :)

I did not remember that about Quantum Leap. Yay! That's where my Man of La Mancha associations came from for the longest time, too.

I was actually listening to Midnight Train to Georgia when I got the idea. Squee for songfic.

Heeeee, indeed. Soooo little porn for them! *weeps*

Me too! Unfortunately, Georgia is not on the soundtrack I promised to you :-( Probably something to do with the rights.

Well, they aren't really sexy. Not enough angst. Too young. ;) They just ooze adorability and bleakness in perfect amounts.

That's probably the problem with Eames, too. She isn't broken, damnit!

That's okay. I don't actually like the song. ;)

Maybe Daisy had to lie to herself.

I've only seen the first season of DLM, but that sort of describes Daisy to me, if that makes any sense. The episode (Vacation?) where the reapers sort through the paper work that has the dead's last thoughts and Mason comes across Daisy's is especially sad and telling: "Why has no one ever loved me?"

I really love your DLM stories. You do such a fantastic job of capturing the characters and tone. This one especially, it's perfect, so melancholy and wistful. *Happy sigh*

Gah. I hate being so inarticulate, but anyway great job. I love it.

You're not articulate at all. ::grin:: I definitely had a first-season mentality when writing that. I'm glad that came across. I wasn't sure about labeling it as such.

Daisy's fascinating. In that same episode, it reveals she died in Marietta, Georgia. So did she ever go to Hollywood?

::blushes:: I'm glad you think so. Thank you.

You're not inarticulate. INarticulate.

::weeps::

Sorry about that. You are, indeed, articulate.

UNLIKE MYSELF.

Thank you. I think it's cool that everyone has a different 'Georgia' story. Shows how influential that old guy was. ;)

Jorja Fox... Now I've lost my train of thought. Um...

Right. Thank you. ::wriggles under your petting:: I think there's just enough melancholy in the characters to keep me interested in writing them, but just enough humor so I don't become overwhelmed. They're perfect. I'm just glad I have ideas.

That was lovely, very lovely. Makes the loss of the show that much more painful though... but I'm glad that there's fanfic like this to remind me of the good old days.

I LOVE Annabeth Gish. Did you know I love Anabeth Gish?!

Thank you very much. I miss the show, too. It feels like it left a lot unfulfilled. But I have been enjoying watching it over and over...

I figured. I saw your Gillery icon in the thread and thought I'd respond in kind. I frickin love the Gish too... met almost all of my online friends at the old Simply Annabeth forum. Oh, the memories!

I went through all your icons. So much George! So much Daisy! So much Gish! It was kind of a lovely experience.

I admit, I kind of lost touch with her after Shag, but seeing her pop up in various entertainments has always been a delight. Right now I'm watching the West Wing Season 6 for the first time, and I quivered to pieces when she appeared.

Which might be too much information.

Oh, thank you, thank you. I'm glad someone commented on Mason. He insisted on being in the story, and I wasn't sure what he would do, since he and Daisy have such a strange, interesting chemistry.

You're welcome. I'm glad people are reading this, obscure and out-of-date though it is. We Library Science people have to stick together. :)
