I hate the modern trend of getting blood from the vein for any blood test, by the way. It was better when they just pricked your finger for the "regular" general test. My veins a thin and they "hide". So it's either the wrist or the back of the hand for me now and it is quite unpleasant.

I used to get my weekly blood tests through a fingerprick. Full vial of blood, one prick, and a lot of squeezing on the part of the phlebotomist. I can't do that anymore--it wrecks your capillaries.

I have tiny, shy veins too - if I’ve been good with water intake, they might get lucky and get blood from the elbow area, if not it’s often the back of the hand!

My veins are a decent size, they just retreated to the bones for a long time when a needle came out. As long as I'm distracted they'll stay up near the surface, but once I see the implements of torture the only resort is the back of the hand.
