That1s really awful. I only knew about it from TV news, but looking at the before and after picture is really something. Wow.
We're having problems here in Brazil as well, about two hours from my house there's a mountain chain and when it rained heavily last week lots of landslides and floods killed over 700 people and left over 20 thousand people homeless :(

Believe it or not it was actually a night, it rained SO much and most of the damage happened then. They say it rained in 24 hours what would be normal for most of the month.
The problem was that it continued to rain (just a little) for several days, so it was difficult for the helicopters to get to some of the places, and it was something horrible. There are still lots of people missing, because many are burried under tons of mud, cars, parts of houses... at least today was sunny and dry and nothing bad happened over there.
