REGRET

I realize that this string is unraveling,    that it would be better if I could hold onto it
Those things that overflow and are washed away    seem to be the same color as you were that day

I gather up these words that you've discarded
Each time they reach my ears, I give you a nod
And the reason I can't search for you in this glowing Pink neon
soon silences the screaming so I can again laugh at my own foolishness

I realize that this string is unraveling,    that it would be better if I could hold onto it
Those things that overflow and are washed away    seem to be a lot like you were that day

I gather up these tears that you've shed
So that each time you cling to me in your loneliness, I can pour them out

Along the road was a faded red flower
She had a tongue piercing just like yours
She wore a ring just like yours
She had her makeup done just like yours
Her hair was almost the same color as yours
Tears just like yours were visible [on her cheeks]
So I called out her name, also so similar to yours

The tranquility I trace with my fingertips is nothing but emptiness
from our past, when we two would sometimes hold each others' hands

There's no song playing during the tear-stained1 credits2    of this black and white film
In the end, the only thing left in my hand    is an empty feeling where yours once was

The unraveling string has been broken,    so I'll sleep3, [holding onto] those words I gathered
Those things that overflow and are washed away    are surely a lot like yours, right?

A dream will remain a dream for all eternity
You can always find peace in your dreams

Translator's Note:
1 The kanji 濡れた (nureta - [made] wet) is written, so I translated it as "tear-stained" or "wet with tears" because it made more sense than "damp credits" or "wet credits"
2 The kanji エンドルール (endo rooru - literally, "end roll") is written; I translated it as the ending credits that roll at the end of a movie, since it made sense with the rest of the line
3 The verb 眠り (nemuri - sleep) is written; this can be taken literally as in "sleeping", or can figuratively mean "die"; given the last lines about peace in your dreams, it could mean either in this song...
