To someone of our generation, who was raised in an atmosphere of tolerance, it's pretty damn baffling when we run across someone who still believes to the root of their being that other skin colors/religions are just utterly wrong, isn't it? In a weird sort of way, I kinda feel sorry for some of these guys. They were raised from a very early age to believe one thing, and then over their lifetime the world completely reverses on them, and starts looking at them as if they're the crazy ones. The level of cognitive dissonance that generates surely fuses a brain wire or two.

Having said that, however, yes, this country does very much need a tolerance tuneup. I think Lewis Black said it best, when he was talking about people not even knowing what they're afraid of when it came to homosexuality. What do they think happens? They sneak in packs to a secluded cul-de-sac, bust down the door, "and start fuckin' each other in the ass,! Another American family is DESTROYED."
