Sorry to hear about your father. Not so much for him as for you. I love your language parachute and I'm looking forward to your foreign poetry. All three languages seem very suited for it, I frankly cannot think of any other reason you picked them. No pressure though. Hope you'lk be well.
It's great to hear from you. I'm impressed with your languaging. (Much better than languishing!)
I tried learning spanish 20 years ago...an hour a day...really working at it. I was 40 at the time. Progress was slow. But my largely forgotten and completely unused high school german? Came back quickly, in LIEU of spanish!!!
I'm doing stuff since retirement so I won't completely lose my faculties: cramming for trivia night :)
Small social groups such as yours are fraught (is that a word?) with infighting. I don't know why, but they are rich with drama. Doesn't matter the subject matter of the group: our mensa and ham radio groups were also so inclined. OMG, can't we just be nice and get along?
Irish is intricately mutated. You can't just do that, in many cases, even with quite a few three and some two-word phrases.
Not only that, you cannot necessarily translate our words, mutate according to the decision tree, put them in Irish order and be certain you're correct, either. It is dense with idiom, different expressions you must use.
Furthermore, written standard isn't totally like spoken Irish (of any dialect): it has many relic participles and does not reflect the contractions, unlike French.
Never mind though. People have predictable reactions to Irish.
Life sounds pretty hard - I hope it eases up and becomes (stays?) pleasant.
Re: the various subcultures, if that's what I think I recall, I'm sorry that it was so *easy* to leave for such reasons, but I reckon such reasons are far more common than some folks would like to admit, alas.
Oh, yeah, and HEY, UNIVERSE? That's enough LIFE to throw at her for a bit - how about some of the fun stuff for a bit?

there will be no poetry... I'll be glad to make myself understood in Irish or Norwegian!

Although I do wonder whether such "Australianisms" are influenced by a heavy Irish heritage.
