Atlantis and scrap paper

Jul 19, 2008 19:11

I'm "liveblogging" my way through research papers to keep myself sane, but out of consideration for you all, I'll just post it all together at the end. I had all these nice little breaks planned to pause and reply to LJ comments, write drabbles and things, but I always forget how much longer it takes to edit a plagiarized paper. I did manage to fit ( Read more... )

I thought I'd hate Woosley too, but you're right, Robert Picardo is doing an amazing job, I *almost* like him.

I wonder if it's easy to make Woolsey interesting because has such a long way to go to be "good" and "competent" as established by the unique situation and people on Atlantis. Of course, their brand of competence, while it often saves the universe, also leads to some pretty massive screw-ups. So maybe a different type of thinker like Woolsey is just what they need!

Did you ever watch Star Trek Voyager? Robert Picardo was one of my two favorite things about that show.

I was never HUGE fan of Voyager, but yes, I watched a bunch of it.

Woolsey might be an interesting addition. I hope so.

Aw, I don't think they used Sam to her full potential, but I'm SO SAD she's gone. I love how they explained it, though: Sam was so GOOD, we HAD to fire her! ;) On the other hand, I, erm, don't miss Elizabeth. But that's mostly because I think they totally squandered her potential. Maybe it's boring to show off diplomatic skills in a war zone, but she could read Ancient! She could've been their Daniel Jackson! Oh, well :|

On the third hand, I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I like Woolsey :)

I get the sense he *wants* to do a good job but honestly struggles in situations where flexibility is a virtue. As they wrote it this week, his world view is being challenged, and that's always tough.
I totally agree. I think the writers have already changed him a bit -- this is not the same Woolsey we saw as recently as The Seer -- but I like that they seem to be laying the foundation for some legitimate disagreements in the future. I agreed with pretty much every call he made, even if I didn't always like his style ( ... )

They are fun to watch, aren't they. :)

Sam was so GOOD, we HAD to fire her!

Heh, you're right, that is pretty cool. If she had to go.

And I think I miss Elizabeth because of the reasons you mentioned - I also felt like they didn't do nearly as much with her as they could have. She did feel like she *fit* there, and maybe I miss the potential more than anything.

No, you're right. I do feel like the foundation was laid in previous episodes, though, where he would get into a situation being all arrogant and with his underpants in a wad, and he'd get proven wrong and be a little sorry about it. Not that it made him change his tune, but at least he's *seen* more than a lot of his rule-pushing colleagues.
