Netlingo, Sarah Jane Adventures

I am net-lingo impaired in that it takes me seeing an expression or emoticon used in context many, many, many times before I eventually figure it out, and sometimes I still have to ask outright. This stuff is not intuitive. (See: my flummoxed reaction to o_0 , for which I still do not get the graphic/facial logic.) But! Look what I found! NetLingoRead more... )

I'm glad I'm not the only one who fails at netspeak. Sometimes I look at the smilies and whatnot people type and squint really hard, and give up having NO idea what it's suppose to be

Hee, I know what you mean. Actually your "vbg" was what made me go hunting, this time, and I'm so glad I did! NetLingo is going in my bookmarks next to Urban Dictionary for helping me figure out things I feel like I should already know. *g* But where does this stuff come from, and how do people pick it up so easily?

it took me far longer than I'd like to admit to pick it up. And what makes it harder is that some boards use different terms/netspeak

*cracks up* I was looking at the acronyms on that site, and man, do I have uses for AWGTHTGTTA. (Which is "Are We Going To Have To Go Through This Again?") Fandom is one big AWGTHTGTTA.

Bwah. That is a great one for fandom.

I liked AAAAA, the American Association Against the Abuse of Acronyms. Snerk.

Hee I was using MSN long before I got into livejournal so I'm fine with 'sideways' smileys but the horizontal type ones like o_0 leave me floundering a bit.
I caused no end of bewilderment to poor unfeathered when I did my first beta for her as I was so used to beta-ing while *in* a chat window I was automatically typing shortcuts for the emoticons I would have normally used :s

(see what I mean

And oohOOH After telling you the other day I'd rather missed SJA I found a (home recorded) DVD of the first episode last night in amongst some Pertwee Who. So I'm going to watch that tomorrow morning :D

Hee! That would have confused me, too. I have the opposite problem - I'll accidentally use some punctuation in a chat window and it turns into a smiley I totally didn't mean to make!

Whee, fun! It's on an odd schedule here on the Sci Fi channel - two episodes a week, but it's the end of one little "serial" and the beginning of another, so every Friday is going to end with a cliffhanger. I guess that's kind of in the spirit of Classic Who, though!

I think what I mis most about Classic Who is the ongoing serial nature of it. So I love when the multi parters come round :D

OH I just recognised your icon! (er it totally slid by me that is one of mine yesterday *facepalm*

Hee. It's such a pretty one! It's fun when you see other people using them, isn't it? Making them is fun anyway, but seeing them pop up is the gift that keeps on giving. That's how I feel anyway. :)
