Classic Who picspam: The Mark of the Rani

Aug 01, 2010 00:05

The Rani keeps coming up in conversation with my friends around here and it keeps reminding me of this post I've had nearly finished for three months. I finally got motivated tonight. Inside the cut you will find crappy screencaps and considerable capslock abuse of glee. Possible pros: the Rani, Time Lord reunions, dinosaur. Possible cons: Peri.

Heh. I am softening on Peri, probably due to the audios and having seen the serial featuring her demise. (Which reminds me, I have a post on that I've never actually posted, too.) But she's still my least favorite. Why did they have to force an American accent on poor Nicola Bryant?

Oh, that's a GREAT cap of the Rani's superior smirk. And awww, that last one of Peri is just adorable. (I try to like Peri. Really I do.)

I love the Rani's "You two go away and obsess somewhere else" attitude in this thing. Can you just picture them back at the Academy? I'm going to have to find a transcript somewhere because now I can't remember the bit where the Doctor is comparing the Master to...I think a liburnum tree?

The Master really would get dizzy if he tried to plot in a straight line.

Oh yes, the laburnum tree! I remember that line. In the Laburnum entry on Wikipedia, it's listed with the cultural references. the Sixth Doctor suggests that if the Master turned into a tree, it would be a laburnum, because they have poisonous pods.

Hee.

I think it was poor planning that the first Peri serial I saw was The Caves of Androzani. If I had watched her with the Sixth Doctor for awhile first, I might have started out with more neutral feelings. I want to like her! That era is problematic for a number of reasons. ::pets show::

And the Master smiled like it was a compliment, hee! (Which it was, to him.)

Oh, yeah, Caves is an especially bad one to start with. At least the one before it has her telling the Master off.

I love the Rani. Don't like either Six or Peri though and have never seen this story.

Talking of maggots, my Third Doctor figure came with 3 of them which can be seen on this pic, somewhat right of centre (click for big).

Another cool thing about this story is that you get to see the inside of the Rani's TARDIS, which is awesome.

I cannot express how much it delights me that the Giant Maggots are an accessory with the Third Doctor AF. They must have been more popular than I assumed!
