Scarf 4.0

Feb 21, 2010 22:33

travels_in_time wanted pictures of the yarn I ordered for knitting my next Doctor Who scarf. I received my wool from Knit Picks last Friday (Feb 12) just before I left for the farm. It was a big, full box. Missing: 'Mist' (the grey color is on back order).

Yarn and more )

::snuggles with yarn:: Apparently the costume designer during the 12th season was the one who originally picked out the yarn and sent it to the knitter who mistakenly used it ALL (thus making a ridiculously long scarf). He did a good job picking colors! You wouldn't think they would work, but somehow they do. :)

I have yarn envy. The colors are beautiful.

Thank you! I can't believe I've finished a quarter of it already. That is lightning compared to my pace on previous scarves.

Ooh, the progress bar, check out the page I got it from. (!!!) This Scarf inspires a lot of fannish skillz, luckily for me.

That yarn is beautiful! I will definitely keep it in mind if I decide to go for one. I still don't know if it's worthwhile to go through all that work and then have a sneaking feeling that it's still not "authentic" because I crocheted instead of knitted.

Speaking of non-authentic, TinyTimelet has seen pictures of the scarf and now she wants a small version. Only I told her that we cannot buy any yarn right now, so she's gone through and picked out colors from my stash. Apparently at some point I will be making a child-size Doctor Who scarf in bright crayon colors.

The yarn is quite affordable for pure wool, it's just that you need so much of it, it still turns out to be an investment. Still, long scarf that will hopefully last decades. :)

Hey, I made a version of the Scarf in *ribbing*. If that's not inauthentic, I don't know what is. I still love it, though, and I think fellow Whovians would recognize it. And look how great this crocheted one looks!

Oh, and bright colors - http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1031/1391728425_5ffabfe1be.jpg?v=0

I think it's a great idea! I love TinyTimelet for being resourceful. :)

Ooh, those knitting needles look fab!

Oh my goodness, they are. I usually don't like circular needles because they make my hands and wrists sit the wrong way, but these have a lovely flexible cable and the wood is so strong and smooth... I'll stop before I start writing knitting needle porn. *g*

I was looking at some of the needle sets in the same line and about fell out of my chair at how inexpensive they were. Because they really do look like good needles.

I did my first big knitting project using a circular needle and it wasn't until I tried the next project with straight needles that I realized I'd developed this horrible habit of dropping one of the needles towards the end of the stitch! It felt like I almost had to learn everything from scratch all over again.
