this weekend/highlander babbling

thefangirl and drujan came over Saturday night for a little movie party. We watched this French movie with Roy Dupuis (Michael from La Femme Nikita) called J’en Suis. (The big draw for this movie is that he plays an apparently straight character pretending to be gay, so you get to see him in lots of ridiculous outfits--including a kilt. Oh yeah, and full ( Read more... )

Welcome to the Highlander world of drooling, hon.
You really should meet (I think you did in Tampa) Cathy AKA wisemack. She's a con going, autograph getting Highlander fan and is crazy about PW.

On other news - I'm so out of it that I didn't even know spoilers for the finale were out. I sometimes wished I cared, but really can't at this point. Woo hoo though on Spike not as dust. Even if this guy is not the Spike of layers I loved, it's good to see him go on.

Oh yes, I remember. I think it was after the cocktail party in Tampa, I was drunk for one of the first times in my life, leaning on this table in order to stand up, listening in awe as wisemack regaled me with stories of Highlander conventions. :)

Yeah, I'm with you on the not caring. My Spike died in "Grave," and whatever respect I had for the writers is long lost. But yeah, I am glad that Spike will go on (assuming these are correct and there's no secret "Spike dies" scene at the end!)

I've always wondered if this is true for anyone else. In 'Revelation 6:8' when Methos says "I killed Silas, I liked Silas" do you laugh? That's always given me an inappropriate giggle.

Awww. Why does it give you a giggle? That line always rips my heart out and stomps on it. I just want to give Methos a big hug in that scene.

I'm not sure. It's got to be something in the delivery. It just seems very odd to me that he would say that and it always makes me giggle without fail. Love PW, love Methos, just can't stop giggling.

I guess it struck me because throughout the episodes, he's very careful what he says. He's all about manipulating people and getting everyone into the positions he wants them in. Everything he says has an agenda. But that line is (IMO) straight from the heart. He's not trying to get something from someone, he's not trying to convince someone of something, he's just honestly deeply upset that he killed his old friend.

(Or I suppose you could say that he's faking remorse to get Duncan to feel sympathetic and not kill him, but even I'm not that cynical.)

So I got curious what year that was, looked it up (1995), then calculated how old I was. I was twelve when "Finale" aired. Twelve

You were Twelve.

::blink:: I had been married seven years and had a two year old in 1995. Also, I was 32.

Hee! We were just about 12 when Star Wars came out, so at least we got to experience that first-hand, whereas our dear Laura was merely 23 chromosomes in an ovary and had to do the Star Wars obsession thing in retro...

I was 10 when that started. I watched it because Levar "Reading Rainbow" Burton was on it.

Which seems weird in retrospect.

Heee. I remember that--I also knew him from "Reading Rainbow."

I hated TNG, though. My dad used to watch it, and I was terrified of it. I would cover my ears, close my eyes, and hum loudly whenever it was on. (I guess I was five or six at the time--I liked it when I got older.)

I am totally up for more Methos.

Excellent. Let me know if you want to come over and watch more--Ingrid lent me her tapes so I have all the good episodes now. This weekend or next perhaps?

Lovely analysis of their relationship. It was better reading than reading most HL fic, seriously. And the friend thing: bitterly perfect.
