Wonderful post. Thanks so much for sharing. I find it interesting that no one's really smiling in the pictures. Is that a cultural thing? I know Americans usually smile for any sort of photo.

Also, do you happen to know where these were taken?

yep, that is. Russian people rarely smile, even in their happy moments. But everyone loves a good laugh, heh, so we aren't so gloomy.
1) it was considered rude to show your teeth long ago
2) it is considered not modest to show everyone that you are doing better than they do, cuz they might feel inferior or jealous
there some other reasons probably

What a wonderful post.It reminds me what opulence we live in here in Australia and that people here never stop complaining about what they don't have.
