I have been doing a lot of research lately and contacting some o/s graduate research schools at art colleges, mainly in Britain. So far I really like Goldsmiths and Slade. Slade particularly as Tacita Dean is a grad and lectures there and I am so connected to her work.
In Australia the choices are also good and I was reading the ARC’s recent ( Read more... )

i graduated with my BScN in 2010, when i was 30. it seemed strange to be to be completing my studies so late in life but in retrospect i'm quite glad i waited because i don't believe i would have performed as well as a younger student. harold (my husband) graduated in 2011, when he was 36. now if only we didn't have fucking student debt to pay back late in life, i'd be much more satisfied with our choices! if i had entered nursing school straight from high school...i'd be done paying off my student loans by now. pisses me off to think of it that way.

Just be weary of the big name UK art schools. Though they sound attractive they are not necessarily the most student supportive places, they're very expensive, they can be unfriendly, the ones you mentioned are in areas that it's incredibly expensive to live in, arts funding has been cut to nothing here, postgraduate funding is going through similar difficulties and unemployment is a real issue if you're planning on working while studying (which I assume you would be for a doctorate.) Also, though they have very attractive names on faculty these people are very rarely present in teaching/supervising capacity - they are basically there as a PR exercise.

Hiya! I don't know much about the UK context, but liken someone else already commented, I reckon it's not always best to pursue the big names. A friend of mine who transferred his PhD from Newcastle (NSW) to UWS uni - around the same time I did - was very disappointed at the lack of collegial support in the research centre where all the bigwig Cultural Studies names were. Lots of big name Professors but they never seemed to be around on campus and there wasn't the sort of scholarly environment he had imagined would be there ( ... )
