There's plenty of stuff I want/need to talk about, but I'm going to try to space it out over the course of a few days/posts to avoid being ridiculously overwhelming. You know, more than usual

Your bookshelf idea sounds like something that a browse through Ikea could help with. Not so you can buy something, just to get ideas - I remember them having a lot of stackable furniture that you might get some inspiration from.
Ooooh, Ikea might be an excellent suggestion. I should check them online and if I find something close go see if they have that item at the local one... Just to get a feel for it.
And, yeah, it's weird being all Master-ful. And we should do something sometime!
I would think browsing through the actual store would be more helpful but I'm a very touchy-learner. I don't get it unless it's right there in front of me. Also, this website might have some good stuff. It looks like it focuses more on design-modding than function, but it may have things! For looking at! And doing!
I have a friend that recently moved to Chicago that I want to schedule a visit for and wanderlustlover has already volunteered me to join her in her roadtrip to you and innerbrat, when she gets there. :D I'm already taking off too much time this summer but I am ALL OVER THESE PLANS for next year.
I never thought I'd be so happy being back in America, much less middle-America. :D :D
Psssst -- reconfigurable bookshelves that double as moving storage are known as milk crates, hon. Although my mother keeps informing me that they do not count as adult decor.
Bemused, Ahddie (who is too damn lazy to change log-ins)
Actually, milk crates only sort of work for what I want. (I mean, about half the stuff in my kitchen is built from the things.) The problem with milk crates is that books can shift in them when they're moved because they're too tall. I'm planning on sizing shelves to the proper height for the books I'm going to put inside. I mean, if the publishing industry is going to be kind enough to standardize the height for A) the hardcover, and B) the mass market paperback, I should take advantage of that, right?
And your mother is wrong. Milk crates are a very adult and mature furniture item. I promise!
Go to IKEA. Look at the Besta and Hemmnes stuff in the living room section of the show room. Decide what sort of look you like. You could easily take this, CAREFULLY drill holes in the top for wooden pegs, and make them stackable.
Or if you don't want to screw with working with prefab plywood, it's easy enough to make shadowboxes, and pick up oodles of metal pins / wooden dowels at a hardware store, and drill holes on the top & bottom to make things stackable. Just be sure to check the weight, as you want the strong enough to hold hardbacks, but not too heavy to lift for moving time.
I would offer you use of the scene shop, except for that whole distance thing.
Oooooh, point. Though I'm kinda, just because, hoping to figure out a simple design for pin-less stacking. I don't even know if it's worth it, but I'm playing around with slotting and stuff, at least on paper.
Still, your suggestions is much easier, and I am lazy.

And I'm quite excited about the bookshelves myself. Assuming I ever manage to put them together.
