See, and I actually loved the Girlfriends' guide to pregnancy. I still quote from it about "the baby made it through the birth canal, so his head won't break off when you dress him in something that has to be pulled over his head"

I also liked the "What to expect" books for first time pregnancies and first year of life

I still receive babycenter emails for my 22 month old and sometimes check the site for my 6 year old

Of course, everything is IMHO. I'm just a terrible book snob.

He's sitting on my bookshelf, so I have the option to turn to him if I change my mind. The funny thing is, my friend said it worked wonders for her first kid and not at all for her second.

Yes, but this is partially why the more radical methods put me off. Something that's more middle-of-the-road is a lot more likely to be applicable to more people, IMHO.

Yeah, I agree with the idea that first 3 months are just a 4th trimesters, so any "sleep training" at that time is BS.
BTW, my big issue with sleep training is you know, my one year old still does need to eat and/or drink in the middle of the night. My 35 year old husband does, too - drinking that is - he wakes up to drink at least twice a night..
I liked the Sears book (obviously...)

I don't even think I'd mind getting up once a night if I knew that there was basically a sleep schedule in place and the kid goes back to sleep (and I do too).

Once a night I wouldn't mind getting up either :)
You might get lucky and have a child that will respond well to a schedule. j :)

I happen to be an asshole and think that children are trainable. At least in theory.

I said as much!

And, of course, I realize that that's about to change!

I'll think about this book... frankly, I'm less concerned about raising little geniuses than I am about a happy, well-adjusted kid. My husband and I aren't academics, we're more the humanitarian/artsy type.

Thanks, I must admit I don't read many books in general lately, so if I get around to it, I'll let you know.
