People have recommend it to me before so I'm thinking about it.

But I've heard it will save your icon only for short amount of time :/

Not if you get an account. Plus, if you don't log in for 90 days, it'll still keep your stuff there. And you don't have a limit to how often people look at it. And if people do hotlink, it usually doesn't kill it.
