MALWAREBYTES ROCKS! Mom's desktop is now virus-free, and running fine. I haven't tackled mine yet - I need to figure out how to slave it to Mom's before I take that on.

Thanks - I'm probably going to need it! (And I think I'm going to wait for the backup Malwarebytes CD to arrive and see if I can do a direct install first, before cracking the case.)

I'm glad that it worked. If Rob says something is good, it's usually true. He gets paid to clean out computers (sometimes quite literally! :-p)

LOL I should probably do some literal cleaning on mine as well as the antivirus. Seven cats make lots of fur, and the kittens were geniuses about getting into the computer cabinet when they were smaller. (It's got a front door, but no back - I figured that would help keep things a little cooler in there.)

Because LC is such a shed monster & this current CPU is super heat sensitive, I ended up putting the tower up higher. It cuts down on the amount of fur that gets into the system. However, it's due for a good clean out again... I will put that on the to-do list for next weekend. This weekend I will be massaging my life away at a steampunk con. :-p
