Advice for a newbie writer? Well, I'm not that old-hat myself, but I would just say: don't worry if you first draft isn't perfect (that's what revising is for :P), and above all else don't ever give up.
I'm actually doing nano, too. We should be buddies!

Haha, it sounds like we were in the same place a couple years ago--I was writing a bunch of really AWFUL novels and short stories :P

And truth be told, I still count myself as a newbie writer: I've been writing fanfic for five, maybe six years now, but original fiction for only about...6 months. So we're totally in the same boat. :p
