Title: Storgê
Fandom: DC
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Gotham loves Batman. Batman needs a Robin.
Notes: "Storgê" is Ancient Greek for “parental love”. The pretentious title is justified on grounds of the fic terrifying me. mattador, this is all your fault.

Just . . . damn. Fantastic job. Gotham is a character in her own right, the creature who makes and shapes the Bat and everything he touches.

I love your point that Dick is the one who got away because he was never really Gotham's in the first place, but Jay, Tim and Steph were all Gotham born and bred--if from very different parts of Gotham.

Your characterization of her giving Bruce his rogues, his friends and allies, is amazing. A lovely, Gaimanesque take on Gotham and the people she holds close.

Your icon speaks the truth, so much. (Except for the days when it's Batman = Gotham. That works too.)

Gotham thinks of Tim as not-really-one-of-hers - partly because I like the distinction with the Even Robins, and collective fanon has impressed upon me that Dick and Tim don't really get Gotham the way Jason and Steph and arguably Bruce do ('arguably' since you would't get the same answer whether you asked Dick or Jason).

Textually, Tim didn't have any link with Gotham's underworld before Robin happened, and Gotham never killed his parents in an alley, so... she doesn't see him as her. Like she's the grandmother who's going a little odd, so your parents have taken her at home?

Not that Tim is going to get away from Gotham, but that's because of his own decision and because of what he feels is his duty to Batman, not because Gotham has plunged her claws into his soul.

'Gaimanesque'? :D My day, it is made. :DDDDD

Wow, surprisingly deep. I really like that you personified Gotham and put here where you did. Mother/Lover. Awesome.

Also, I like that you said she would have eaten Robin. >.<<3

With all the parent issues present in canon, there was no way I was going to let Gotham off that. (Batman makes it easy. 'This is my town', mhm.)

Yeah, Gotham eats her kids. Because she loves them. *hides under her bed*

Whoa. This was... intense. Creepy. And downright true. Gotham really is THE city.

Really, I wish I had better words, better compliments to offer, but you kinda left me speechless, you know. This was just fantastic, in a very disturbing way.

:DDDDDDD There aren't better words or better compliments than "Gotham is THE city". At least, not for me and not for this. Thank you.

Man, if this is my fault, I will happily take the blame for it! Hell, I will start trying to get other things blamed on me. This is disturbing and beautiful and spot-on.

Dude, you made me live with Gotham talking to me for three days. I'd send the therapy bills to you, but yeah, Gotham.

If it helps, at one point I started writing a comic script once with a kung-fu master and four students who were somewhat transparently Dick, Tim, Cassie, and Steph.

That sounds very, very awesome. Did you keep/post a trace of it anywhere? I'd love to read it.
