Ah, the past really does just keep coming back and back, doesn't it? I hadn't expected Marie to make another appearance, especially like this...what are the chances?

I liked this piece a lot--it was a good mix of both the personal and the political, and both aspects fed off each other well. I'm a bit intrigued by what this whole business deal was that had everyone so worked up, though I suppose that's ultimately not the important bit about it (unless it is? I could be wrong...).

Also: I definitely think Julia made the better dress choice. Usually I'm not really struck by what people in fiction wear, but the gray dress for some reason caught my attention.

Thank you!

I wasn't entirely expecting Marie back until she arrived, but I had wanted an excuse to use her again, even if only for this. :-)

And, yes, the business deal isn't the important point. It was supposed to be a takeover by Mr Logan to save a British firm, but I fear I might have confused myself at some points. Julia wasn't much interested, though! (Edward was effectively merely hosting and overseeing that event; I don't actually know whether that would ever fall to the Foreign Secretary. It might, I think, especially in that situation? I don't know. This whole fic is a lot of me bluffing, except where it isn't. I just like to remind myself that in the 1950s one of the actual Foreign Secretaries used to wander round talking to the portraits of his predecessors and another used to work from his bed and ask random wives of his secretaries for their opinions on foreign policy, so none of my fictional politicians are anything like eccentric enough to be real.)

Usually I'm not really struck by what people in fiction wear ( ... )

You do wonder sometimes exactly how people who are clearly a bit unhinged end up having control over, er, war powers and such, but everyone needs an escape from intense responsibility? Even if it's...odd? It's reassuring, anyway, when you look at an "important" character you've made up and find yourself going "what sort of lunatic let this person be in charge of anything?" XD

And hey, even if it was bluffing, it was logical/consistent enough bluffing that even I, another experienced bluffer, didn't notice.
