Oh, they've come a long way!
He recognised that as one of those questions to which there was no good answer
Ain't it the truth! Wise man.
Very cinematic it's getting to be with all the shadowy cloak and dagger! Casting? Julianne Moore would be pretty great as Marie, I think. Ralph Fiennes as Edward? Jenna-Louise Coleman for Julia, or would she be just too young?

Heh, oh not so much - I've been writing some more early stuff, and Julia has always had a bit of a hidden possessive streak. (It was all that not having anyone, and then having someone. *shrugs*)
And, aw, thanks for reading, and I'm very amused that you have your own fancasting! ♥ (I think Jenna is a bit young - by this point they must be about 43 and 34 respectively? But then, what do film-makers care? ;-p)

Thanks for error-spotting; I've fixed the last. Wide of the mark is a common phrase in English (see here). And Marie is American and being a little wry, so she says "your police...". (But that did make me spot a repeated "after all" in those two sentences, so I fixed that as well. :-D So many errors!)

Thanks for the clarification! Do "of the mark" and "off the mark" both exist, then, or is "off the mark" the incorrect one?

Wide off the mark would always be incorrect, yes. (On it's own "off the mark" would be fairly legitmate though. English...)
