“Eat,” said Lyssa. The bowl fell from her fingers and clattered against the tabletop.

Grey eyes laced with red met her own as Ski forced her chin up. She looked from her sister to the steaming bowl before her without so much as a word.

Lyssa gave the bowl a shove in her direction. “Eat,” she said again.

Ski continued to stare blankly at the dish. Lyssa set her own down and took the seat across from her. She thrust her fork into the nondescript substance she figured was meant to be some sort of stew, securing what she hoped was a piece of meat. At least it tasted better than it looked.

Lowering her gaze, she tried to concentrate on the task of bringing food to her mouth and ignore the fact that the sounds of her scraping and chewing were not echoed by her companion.

“There are black cloaks here,” she muttered. Ski barely blinked. “We’ll be leaving tonight.” Still no response. “Look,” she said, stabbing a carrot, “I know it’s not Rune’s or anything, but it’s not half bad.”

“I am not hungry.”

Lyssa paused, her fork firmly lodged in something unidentifiable at the bottom of her bowl. The scowl she gave her sister was met with her usual lackluster gaze. “You’re never hungry.” Those steely eyes rimmed with dark trenches focused on her again. Ski parted her lips but said nothing. “I’m not about to sit back and watch you starve yourself.”

There was a flicker of what may have passed as anger, a slight knitting of her brow. “I am not-” She sighed, indignation and the momentary spark of something lifelike passing from her face. “I am simply not hungry.”

“Not your choice anymore,” said Lyssa. She took Ski’s fork and jabbed it into the bowl in front of her. “Eat.”
