This is so heartbreaking, and a sadly realistic situation for many combat veterans. What really struck me was the line about Rose Marie wondering if it was horrible to feel a little relieved. That's such a realistic reaction to that kind of thing--sadness that someone you love is gone, but also a little relief that they're no longer suffering. It's a complicated feeling.

Yeah. She hurts so much from losing him, but at the same time, she knows she lost him long before, and she's glad he doesn't hurt anymore. Complicated is definitely the word for it.
