Man, poor Allyson. My mom nags about grandkids, and it's annoying enough even though I know she's kidding. I can't imagine how much worse it would be for someone who determinedly doesn't want kids and knows her mother isn't kidding.

Good job!

The pressure to have kids can be extremely annoying from certain quarters. I don't have parents who pressured me to "give" them grandkids, but I have encountered from SO's parents before. It's not much different. In Allyson's mother's case, the pressure for grandchildren comes from a sense of emptiness within herself.

Thanks for reading. :)

Yes, the moment you even become *vaguely* attached to anyone, people you know and people you don't know become interested in your plans for reproduction. Never mind that it might not be possible, isn't something you ever considered, etc. You are paired, therefore, you must have teh babiez.

I find writing dialogue to be difficult but interesting.

Thanks for reading. :)

I have a suspicious she might be about to get more entusiastic, given that there is now a boy involved to persaude to do his duty as well. I understand Allyson's exasperation though. I wish her luck. The lima bean plant incident made me laugh :)

Oh, most likely. "Doing his duty" is a double-edged sword for Jamie, because he happens to come from a family with an old inherited title, and producing heirs is part of that aristocratic tradition. He's going to be feeling pressure times gazillion from Allyson's mother...and none of this will help Allyson either!

And that lima bean incident comes from...personal experience. ;)

Thanks for reading. :)

Hee! I like the flow of the conversation. Poor Allyson. A lot of people who don't want kids get grief from others about it, especially family, and it really is a personal choice that others shouldn't be involved in.
