Title: Don't Want To Go
Summary: Alex and Lily's 19th birthday party.
Notes: All the lyrics are in italics and are from Iris by Goo Goo Dolls
And I'd give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel me somehow.
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.
Ryan hated dinner parties with a passion. He couldn't stand the small talk with people he had never met and watching people slowly become more drunk as the evening wore on. He couldn't get out of Alex and Lily's birthday party, not that he really wanted to. Ryan knew that the only good part was that some of their friends were there.
Talon and Sammy were talking by the buffet, Talon talking animatedly, hands flying all over and Sammy nodding enthusiastically. Lily and her boyfriend-of-the-week were cuddling by the patio door, looking for an opportunity to escape into the privacy of the backyard garden. Alex, however was no where to be seen and Ryan figured he must have gotten talking, leaving Ryan to fend for himself.
The music that blasted from the stereo changed from some upbeat dance song to a slow power ballad straight out of the 80's. Alex reappeared just seconds after the music change, coming from the direction of the kitchen. The grin on Alex's face told Ryan he wasn't going to like whatever Alex's plan was.
"Let's dance," Alex said as he reached for Ryan's hand and dragged him towards the center of the living room.
"Alex," Ryan whined as Alex pulled him close, hands going directly to Ryan's waist. "No, not here."
"Why not?" Alex asked with a grin and Ryan could smell the alcohol on his breath.
"I can't dance Alex, you know that," Ryan felt himself slowly relaxing into the slow dance even with his protesting. The younger man moved closer to Ryan and Ryan couldn't breath for a moment. Ryan was losing his argument. "There are people here."
"You're not doing a half bad job right now," Alex says with a laugh. "And why should they care? We're just two friends having fun."
"Yeah," Ryan says breathlessly because Alex is now a little too close to think, much less care what everyone else thinks.
"I expect my gift after the party," Alex whispers into Ryan's ear, causing the older man to groan softly.
"You're going to be the death of me," Ryan says, affectionately.
"I know," Alex says with a smirk. Ryan rests his head on Alex's shoulder, not wanting the moment to end.
