Title: Birthday Presents
Summary: Alex and Romeo's birthday present for Ryan.
Ryan had expected a lot of things for his birthday: clothing, books and appliances for his new house, but the last thing he was expecting was a German shepherd puppy with a big red bow tied around its neck. Ryan was surprised when he opened the door to see Alex standing there with a puppy in his arms and a 'Happy Birthday' on his lips.
"Alex?" Ryan said, unable to take his eyes off the squirming puppy in Alex's arms.
"Happy Birthday Ry," Alex said, handing the puppy to Ryan with a grin. Ryan looked at the shepherd puppy who immediately cuddled into the warmth of his chest before looking again at Alex unable to speak.
"You ok Ryan?" Romeo had appeared behind Alex, arms loaded down from bags. "Just so you know this was all Alex's idea."
"Do you like him? I know that you said you would always love a German shepherd and I thought you might be lonely. If you don’t want him the breeder said she'll take him back," Alex said, the first hints of nervousness appearing on his face.
"Over my dead body," Ryan said as he pulled the puppy closer to him and the dog reached up and licked his face. Ryan was laughing and let the couple into the house. "Does he have a name?"
"Not yet. I thought you'd want to have the honour. We brought some stuff for him too. You know the basics: leashes, toys, a bed, a crate, some food and treats. Mom also looked at him and he has his first set of vaccines."
"I've got everything here for him except the crate. There was no way in hell I was going to be able to carry that in," Romeo said.
"I love him. Thanks," Ryan said with a smile. Ryan held the puppy out in front of him and truly looked at him for the first time. The puppy was mostly black with a tan markings around the eyes, feet and tail. His ears were still a little floppy, only accentuating the puppy look. The giant red bow was around his neck, nestled in the long fluffy fur.
While Ryan was looking at the new puppy, the puppy began to squirm in the odd position he being held in. Alex came up and pulled the puppy out of the bassist's arms.
"Let's see if he has to go outside," Alex said, while walking towards the back door and Ryan followed in his wake. "What are you going to name him?"
"Not sure yet. I was thinking Memphis," Ryan followed Alex into the backyard and watched as Alex put the puppy into the grass.
"I like it."
"Same," Romeo said from the back door. "I'll put the stuff in the kitchen for now."
"Thanks," Ryan said with a smile. "And thanks for Memphis, I love him."
