Summary: Beau and Jez decide to celebrate their wedding their own way.
Notes: This, now that I think about, it is a similar idea to one of Ichthus’ recent pieces involving Tim and Jay. Marina gave me the idea, so no idea if it actually came from that or not. Fluff time!! Last Trail Mix!

The wedding, despite being a three way celebration, took less time than Jez might have anticipated. However, that did not make the castle-wide reception any less crazy. Although many of those present were friends, relatives or at least comrades-in-arms from the Freedom Fighter days.

It took hours before she could extract herself and she again marveled at the sheer quantity of people. Her brain automatically began to try and figure out how exactly the crown was managing to pay for all of it, before she ran smack into someone. “Oh, I’m very so-.”

“I think my wife is allowed to crash into me.”

“Oh thank the gods. I thought maybe you were yet another dignitary. I can stand the ones I know, but it takes so long to get through each. They want to talk and talk and remind me that I’m a princess now.”

“You are a princess now,” Beau pointed out, slipping an arm around her waist.

She elbowed him hard in the side in retaliation. “I don’t need reminders.” Then her smile vanished. “More dignitaries coming from your right.”

He glanced down the hall, realized they had a bit of time and tugged Jez towards the nearest door. She raised an eyebrow. “That’s a broom closet, Beau. Maybe a whole supply closet.”

He winked, waved cheekily at the approaching people, and opened the door, giving her a gentle shove when she did not immediately go in. “So, I can’t take credit for this, because Jay found them first, because who else would be bored around here but Jay, now that Bri’s moved down to the city proper.”

“Credit for what?” Jez asked and then squeaked as he pulled the door shut behind them, leaving them in total darkness. A moment later, a match flared followed by a lantern sputtering to life.

“This,” Beau said, handing her the lamp and then feeling along the wall. A moment later, a section of the wall slid aside, exposing a small but easily passable passage.

“What in the world?” Jez sputtered.

“Series of tunnels, passages, something, throughout the castle. As far as we can tell, the Three never knew about them. Ren didn’t.” He paused, a guilty look crossing his face as he ushered Jez through and the door slid shut behind them again. “Ren might, um, still not know.”

“You didn’t tell him?” Jez sputtered and then quickly quieted when Beau shushed her.

“No. If I tell him, how in the world will I be able to escape when I don’t want to be prince any more?”

She stared at him and then slapped a hand over her mouth as she started giggling. “Beau Highcastle, are you telling me that you use these tunnels to shirk?”

He turned, pulling her close to him and kissing her firmly. “If you promise not to tell, I might just find a use for it that you’d appreciate.”

She laughed, pushing him away. “Beau.”

“Can I sweep you off your feet and into our room? No threshold of a real house, but I can do second best.”

“I’ll take it,” Jez said, leaning over and favoring him with a peck on the cheek. “But won’t there be people there too?”

“Screw them,” Beau said easily, fingers wrapped in hers.

She had to grin. Being a princess might have been more than she had initially bargained for, but Beau was so very worth it.
