Newson really got to Ashdown this time. He realizes he's lost and that the time for games is over in a really chilling way because it seems like after threatening to kill Verity didn't work out, reuniting him with Rosalind clearly hit a nerve. I hope this time she makes it although the poor girl will have to deal with lots of stuff if someone sits down and explains everything to her.

I'm not familiar with the characters, as this is my introduction to the story, but I'm already aching for Ashdown. For Newson to play such a card, he must truly be sadistic.

Though I'm left aching with Ashdown, I feel this piece is really about Newson. I get a greater sense of character from Newson's willingness to dig into a personal history and dredge up a beloved ghost for use as a levering tool than I do from Ashdown's reaction.

Ashdown is an extremely cool, unique, and memorable name, by the way! What a fantastic name for a protagonist.

Thank you! This bit of the plot does reveal quite a lot about Newson, I really need to write more of him actually because he's the main antagonist but most of my writing focuses on the others.

I was left puzzling over Edward Ashdown's name for a while, so thanks. :) I'm gad Ashdown's emotions carried through well enough.

Ouch, Newson, that is a nasty move even for you. Poor Ashdown.
