“When I die, you’ll get nothin’ from me,” her father had told her a few weeks ago. Adele Merritt had simply scowled at him and left for school. Bastard. It wasn’t as though he had anything to leave her anyway. She couldn’t wait to move in with her mother.
When he died, his will bequeathed her one thing: a stinky old coat, binbag-black with a flimsy hood. When she tried it on, she discovered a slightly crumpled card in the pocket: one flick told her it had fifty quid on it.
“Dad, you’re a fucking idiot. Cheers all the same.”
