The last moments of her life felt slow. Time became feathery silt in a deep, stone-still lake; falling so gently, defying gravity, beneath the mad pushing of the duck-legs and the mirror-like surface that moved like liquid mercury before the haze of sky. The sky was far away now. The sky was gone.
Gleaming metal sliding past on either side, a dizzying fall, a dainty roll in the air. Wind in her hair. Yes. This was it. Over soon. Soon.
Final impact felt like being hugged by the concrete. For the longest moment it held her lovingly.
